About Resources

The HSC manages the production of resources in support of activities on and leading up to WSFD. Typically there are posters, balloons, stickers, bookmarks and t-shirts as well as other assorted items (these vary from year to year). Generally the resources feature the specific design (and/or strapline) for that year or the WSFD globe logo.

The 2008 WSFD theme is a continuation of both the 2007 theme, “Smokefree…it’s about us/ Kia Auahi Kore mō tātou te kaupapa”, and of the focus on the importance of a smokefree/auahi kore future for our young people. Resources have been developed to support and feature this theme and focus.

2008 Imagery

The creative imagery for the 2007 and 2008 resources was designed by Kaaterina and Tai Kerekere of KE Design, Wellington.

Meaning of the World Smokefree Day 2008 Imagery

Fern: The fern represents Aotearoa/ New Zealand. Our efforts in smokefree/ auahi kore aim to achieve a smokefree future for New Zealand's young people.

Hapū wahine: The figure of the pregnant woman symbolises family, generations and nurturing.

Family under the whare: This represents whānau and community – supporting each other to be and to become smokefree/ auahi kore.

Youth: This depicts trends and culture of youth within today’s society. The cord coming from the headset emphasises the concept of ‘plugging our youth into the kaupapa’ of smokefree/ auahi kore.

Other Resources

Existing Smokefree resources that do not specifically link to the 2008 World Smokefree Day theme may also be useful, depending on what angle regions choose to take. For example, if your region is focusing on protecting young people from being exposed to second-hand smoke, the smokefree homes and cars resources will be useful.

A large number of tobacco control resources are available from a variety of organisations. To access these resources, contact the following organisations:
